This was an actual book that I bought! (No way!) BJ and I were in Ann Arbor and visited one of our fave bookstores Literati. Obviously books were purchased. This was one I secured during that trip.
This was on a wall with staff recos. Also, it’s pink. And the blurb sounded interesting. (Yes! I actually read the blurb!) I knew that I had some heavy reads coming up on my TBR pile for review, so I was looking for some books that were lighter and more….summery. This fit the bill.
The story is based around Casey Pendergast who works at a PR firm and is in her mind on the fast track for success. Her boss, and the owner of the firm gives Casey an opportunity to help launch a new venture. Casey has to make decisions on how much she wants success and what she is willing to sacrifice.
Overall I enjoyed this book. It was a fairly quick read and kept my interest. I appreciate that the main character Casey struggles with anxiety and tries to grapple with that. In the end, this book was about female empowerment and and how, as a woman you need to take ownership of your life, body and career.
There were some parts of the book that made me uncomfortable – I don’t want to spoil the plot for you. I will say that in context of the #metoo movement and all that goes with that, I am not sure that some of the themes ring true today. (Or maybe it’s just that I don’t want them to ring true.)
If you are looking for a good summer read, this isn’t a bad place to go.
